Feeding your turtle can be fun for both you and your pet turtle since chewing food is fun for them. Turtles can be ideal pets for animal lovers of all ages. That’s the reason why you should go out of your way to provide them with the best possible care. This especially involves knowing the type or species of your pet turtle, so that you can provide them with the diet most suited to them. Identifying the best food and when to give it is very essential to ensure the longevity and robust health of your pet turtle.
Turtle food is pretty simple and it is very easy to make, especially after you see what they like and do not like. Most turtles eat meat and vegetables, so a balanced diet with an equal combination of both would be a stable diet for it. A good diet is essential for any animal to live a long time. If turtles are fed right they can live for decades so make sure you give them a good diet.
Some varieties like tortoises enjoy vegetables the most and enjoy gnawing at grass and plants. Whereas some of them are scavengers feeding on insects and even other animals. Every species of turtle is different. They all require different diets. If you try to feed your turtle a diet that is not for them it will not be good. Make sure your diet is specific to the breed of turtle you won.
Different species of turtles have different diets. Most land turtles eat more vegetables while water turtles tend to eat more vegetables and greens. Again, knowing the type of diet your turtle eats is hugely important. Remember to feed them only turtle food you get at the store and not people food as it is harder for them to digest.
As you can see, knowing a lot about what kind of turtle you have will enable you to decipher the kind of food it needs. You can include commercial turtle food in their diet, though not too much, since turtles willingly relish vegetables and meat. Remember, though, the food you give it needs to be finely chopped and well apportioned.
You will want to feed your turtle when they are hungry. It will take a few days to find the right feeding time for them. Identifying it will enable you to avoid foods they won’t eat. Uneaten food leads to contamination of the tanks, making it difficult to inhabit because of the filth and stench. A clear understanding of when and what to feed your turtle can virtually prevent that kind of contamination. Also, they must be regularly provided with fresh drinking water served in a separate container.
